Texting While Driving

My wife was recently hit by a car, a couple of weeks ago, (Very bad accident) It could have resulted in a fatality. What was determined was that the person who hit her was texting. (After looking at the skid marks and the very late reaction time to stop.)

Everyone is recovering and will be ok, but I we wantedto post a good link to hopefully help any campaigns and movements to stop this.

I personally vote for the phone companies to make it mandatory for a gps in every text available phone that doesnt allow for texting over a certain speed.

Amazon Kindle ONLY $79 — Will they dominate above Apple?

Amazon has thrown down the gauntlet so to speak with Nook and iPad. They just released four new Kindle products!

The all-new Kindle for only $79, two new touch Kindles (Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G) for $99 and $149, and a new class of Kindle, Kindle Fire, a beautiful full color Kindle for movies, TV shows, music, books, magazines, apps, games, web browsing and more, for only $199 (think tablet). And these aren’t some watered down version of the Kindle. These are high-end products. Amazon says they are the best Kindles they have ever made.

These new prices will make this technology affordable for many more people, especially with Kindle now expanding to libraries too.

Windows 8 – A Win for Microsoft!

Yes Microsoft has taken some hits in the past 3 years, however I finally believe that they have started to get it and are turning things around.

I am extremely optimistic that their new OS (‘Windows 8′) that will cover the tablets and PC markets will be a giant hit.

Slated to be released in 2012 this is what will make the tablet market really strong and provide good competition to Apple.

We are always in favor for good old American competition as it keeps these companies on their toes and honest in the long run.

Not Bank’s Fault Hackers Stole $300K From Account

This is really not new news, this has happened many times before and we first reported on a situation with one of our clients (before they became our client ) and how their business account was hacked and money transferred to the islands. The FBI and Bank could do nothing for them. (Total of $60,000 lost non recoverable!, Not to mention the sleepless nights.)

Malware attack targets Mac users

It’s not unusual for a new malware attack to pop up on the Internet every other moment, but the latest vicious bit of software floating around is particularly fascinating because it specifically targets Mac users.

The Next Web reports that a malware version of the popular MacDefender antivirus application is confusing and infecting a great number of Mac users right now:

Early reports show that users have been targeted as they search Google Images, one user stating that the bogus MacDefender application was automatically downloaded as he browsed images of Piranhas. Further searching through the Apple Discussion boards suggests that the malware campaign is targeting users of Apple’s Safari browser, displaying warnings that the user’s computer has been infected with viruses that only the unofficial MacDefender application can remove.

Part of the reason many are being easily infected by the malware is that Safari — the default browser in Mac OS — can be set to automatically open trusted software. This means that users are getting infected without even a hint of what’s happening until the malicious app demands payment for “protection” like a digital mob boss.

The good news? So far it doesn’t appear that the malicious MacDefender app does much, other than attempt to scare people into forking over their credit card numbers. It can even be easily removed:

To ensure you do not automatically download the app, uncheck the following: Safari > Preferences > General > uncheck “Open ‘safe’ files after downloading.”

Searching for the application and deleting it directly may fail, saying the app is in use. To stop it running, check Activity Monitor (in Applications > Utilities) and disable anything that relates to MacDefender.

Look in /Library/StartupItems and, same place, LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons for references to the malware app.

Once quit, head to the Applications folder and drag the MacDefender app to the trash, then delete trash.

To ensure all references to the app are cleared, run a search using Spotlight and delete all MacDefender references you find.

As a precaution, it would be wise for Safari users to toggle the “Open ‘safe’ files after downloading” setting whether they’re infected or not. It could prevent attacks similar to this one.

Internet Explorer 9

An enormous effort by Microsoft is proving to pay off. It’s new browser “Internet Explorer 9″ gives the most space to the webpage, with a drastically cropped top-window frame that takes up just 63 pixels, compared to Chrome’s version to date.

What I really like is the direction Microsoft is going with privacy in it’s new “Tracking Protection”, which gives users more control than Chrome or Firefox’s solutions to the privacy issue.

In some performance measures, particularly graphics manipulation tasks, IE9 outperforms all comers. On two out of three JavaScript benchmarks, however, it’s bested by both Chrome and Firefox 4. Finally, IE9 tweaks tabs, search, and its unique pinned site capability that places site icons in the Taskbar.

Now it is different and has some features that a number of users may have to get used to such as Pinned Sites and reducing the Favorites box to the top right.

But all in all IE9 and Microsoft are starting to move in the right direction and gaining their focus back.
